Gently Tinkling in the Distance
Gently Tinkling in the Distance was an installation at the Minutiae winter group show at Bank Street Arts. The show was focused on small works of art and I responded by making an installation of 'small sounds'. The source sounds were made from manually rolling the barrels of music boxes extremely slowly, to arrive at something Morton Feldman-esque: small, disconnected, tinkling notes. These were placed against a bed of the same sounds manipulated by granulation, for a humming, shimmering undercurrent. The installation was presented on 8 tiny loudspeakers dangling from their wires in the gallery space.

Like other installations I was making at the time this relied on CDs running different parts that would go out of synchronization - see (incommensurable loops). The small player I designed for that allows you to hear something of what the installation sounded like albeit without the sculptural and spatial element. Side note - I never did quite get over the unintentional double entendre in the title and by the time someone pointed it out to me, it was too late.
