I'm a bit skeptical of 'interactive' sound art, holding to the idea that although the output of a system can be indeterminate, as the composer I'm deciding the nature of that system and its inputs and scope. When I talk about interactive works I'm thinking of the kind of museum based sound works where you break a beam, or step on a pressure plate to make a sound. Perhaps such interactive artworks are actually instrument building, if you define an instrument as a device, or system for music making. Those concerns aside I thought it would be fun, and perhaps a bit less political, to make a version of Syrinx where any twitter feed can be specified and submitted to my indeterminate scheme.
