Installations - Listening to the Building Nov/Dec 2010 Listening to the Building was installed as part of my residency at Bank Street Arts in November/December 2010. Small contact microphones were placed in strategic positions around the building - water pipes, guttering radiators, work surfaces etc and their vibrations fed through to a listening room in the basement project space and a pair of headphones outside the gallery. The inner sounds of the building were then presented as a piece to listen to, performed by the building itself. There is a huge debt to John Cage and the idea that such everyday noises can be considered a musical piece as well as David Byrne's Playing the Building where a building's structure is integral to the piece
